Code of Conduct
This Code of Conduct applies to all Dundee Data Meetup activities, including in-person events and online communities (such as Slack).
1. Respect and Inclusivity
- Treat all participants with respect, kindness, and courtesy, regardless of their background, experience, or perspectives.
- Foster an inclusive environment that welcomes and values individuals from diverse cultures, ethnicities, genders, sexual orientations, and abilities.
- Avoid any form of discrimination, harassment, or offensive behaviour, including but not limited to verbal, written, or physical actions in both online and offline interactions.
- Be mindful that online communications can be misinterpreted; choose your words carefully and assume positive intent from others.
2. Photography and Media
- Attendees should ask permission before taking photos of other attendees or organisers.
- Organisers will always ask permission before taking photos.
- Photos taken at events may be used for promotional purposes (e.g., our website, social media, and future event materials).
- Respect "no photo" requests; if someone declines, do not photograph or record them.
- Organisers will announce if event photography is taking place and provide an opt-out mechanism.
- Do not photograph sensitive information on slides or content explicitly marked as confidential.

3. Professional and Respectful Communication
- Maintain a professional and courteous demeanour in all interactions, whether in-person or online.
- Use appropriate language and avoid profanity, offensive jokes, or inappropriate content.
- In online communities, stay on-topic in designated channels and use thread replies when appropriate to keep discussions organized.
- Respect others' time by avoiding excessive posting, spamming, or derailing conversations.
4. Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing
- Encourage constructive and meaningful discussions, promoting the sharing of knowledge, insights, and experiences.
- Engage in open-minded conversations, embracing different perspectives and fostering a culture of learning and growth.
- Respect the privacy and confidentiality of others when discussing sensitive topics or sharing information.
- When sharing resources or links in online communities, ensure they are relevant and appropriate for the discussion.
5. Online Community Guidelines
- Use your real name or a professional handle that identifies you to the community.
- Do not share personal contact information of other members without their explicit consent.
- Avoid direct messaging community members for unsolicited promotional content or job offers unless explicitly welcomed.
- Report spam, inappropriate content, or violations to moderators promptly.
- Respect channel purposes and community guidelines specific to each online platform.
6. Compliance with Policies
- Adhere to all applicable laws, regulations, and policies related to data privacy and security.
- Respect the intellectual property rights of others and avoid unauthorized use or distribution of copyrighted materials.
- Do not share confidential or proprietary information from your workplace or other organizations.
7. Reporting and Enforcement
- Report any violations of the Code of Conduct to the event organizers or contact us directly at dundeedatameetup@gmail.com.
- All reports will be handled confidentially and investigated promptly.
- Organizers will address reported incidents appropriately, which may include warnings, temporary suspensions from online communities, or removal from events and community spaces.
- For online communities, moderators may remove inappropriate content and take immediate action to maintain a safe environment.
By participating in Dundee Data Meetup events and online communities, you agree to uphold and abide by this Code of Conduct. We are committed to creating a positive, inclusive, and professional community both online and offline.
